Whether "new build" or "refurbishment", careful consideration needs to be given to the products used within the structural fabric of the building. Improving the performance of our buildings is essential in meeting the carbon reduction targets.
On a new build planning will dictate what Code for Sustainable Homes must be met. There are many solutions available to either meet or exceed the current requirements.
With "refurbishment" is it financially beneficial to consider energy performance whilst carrying out home improvements and extensios. Even when upgrading individual rooms within a property simple measures can improve the comfort, save energy, reduce carbon and save money.
It should be remembered that sensible sourcing of products reduces the carbon footprint and therefore makes the build more sustainable.
